Family Prayer Before Leaving for School?

Dear Holly,
My question is about prayer time for children. I have a 5 year old, a 3 year old and a 6 month old. My husband and I have evening prayer with them which includes: the Lord's Prayer, intentions and prayers of thankgiving, a song, blessings with Holy Water and a big family hug at the end.
I want to start a morning prayer with my kids before school. I don't homeschool, so we have a limited time in the morning before we have to leave to drop off my oldest. Do you have any suggestions for types of prayer or things that we could do that are appropriate for their age group?

  1. I am thinking sign of the cross, hold hands as a family, a morning offering and angel of God prayer, and then Mummy/Daddy's blessing on each child physically with Holy Water and a very brief prayer of consecration to Immaculate Mary and protection blessing for a good day. Then a big hoorah or something - like a football huddle! Short and sweet and to the point. Something along those lines -

  2. My kids are the same ages! And my oldest gets on a school bus, we are always rushed in the morning. We say prayer during breakfast. "Good morning dear Jesus, this day is for you, I ask you to bless all I think, say and do". Very short and simple!!

  3. We've had prayer time on the stairway while waiting for carpool. A quick blessing as they go out the door. We've also done prayers on the drive to school when the mornings were too hectic to get everyone together.
