Be Not Afraid...

Dear Holly,
My husband has finally given me the go ahead to homeschool next year after my waiting for a number of years. Of course, suddenly now that I have it, I'm quite nervous about all those things I thought I'd never be nervous about! I do stay often in touch with a wonderful Catholic mothers' group who mostly homeschool, so I do have lots of support there and am trying to get in touch with the local TORCH group. We moved away from my dear friends a while ago, but thank the Lord for email!! But, pulling the kids out of the local Catholic school now has me a little stressed-it's the leap of faith on my part, but my kids will be excited, so thankfully I am not too worried about their reaction. Any comments?

  1. The most important thing to remember is that Catholic education is about your entire life - about helping your children grow up as good Catholics and good persons. That means every aspect of your life is important. Don't worry about the academics as if that is the only important part. Love them, teach them their faith, teach them how to work, help them get along, help them serve their community, and teach them to read, write, do math, and most especially to 'think' - to analyze good and bad , and evaluate what they see.

You can do this because this is the job of parents, and so you have special graces. You can do it! Your husband has confirmed what's been in your heart. Lean on all of the supports God has given you and keep your prayer life up, your virtue growing, and you will be fine!
