A Bubblegum Dilemma
Dear Holly,
Whenever we go out to eat, in spite of our attempt to be vigilant, my four year old daughter somehow manages to pull gum out from under the table and puts it into her mouth. We have tried everything that we can think of to discourage this. Any ideas? It is hard to find a natural consequence that is proximate enough to be meaningful.

Why not bring fresh gum and give her a stick or two before she has a chance to dig under the table? You'll eliminate the need for her to chew "used"! "-)
Maybe you could check the table and find any gum before she did, or you could ask your hostess to take care of it.

I think that by removing the habit of looking for gum, after 6 months, you can then reason better and stop giving the fresh gum.
