Welcome to "Thoughts for Moms"

Dear Friends,

"Thoughts for Mom" is a special place to receive spiritual sustenance related to the vocation of motherhood. Here I will post various reflections — from popes, saints, and Catholic writers, to my thoughts and yours — to help us better live our mission as Moms, and to help us give our vocation the depth of meaning God intended it to have.
Once more, you and I both have something to share, so please join me in adding meditations and personal insights in the comments section under each post, or contacting me at holly@mothersruleoflife.com with your own reflection to add.

God Bless,
Holly Pierlot

We Must Do Our Part...

"As my humble, faithful and daily motherly action in the little and poor house of Nazareth made possible the fulfillment of the Father's plan, which was realized in the human growth of the Son... so too I am calling you to second the plan of the Father, which is being realized through your human collaboration and by means of your daily work. You must do your part, as the Heavenly Father does his. Your action must be espoused to that of divine providence..."

"We must do our part..."

Isn't that the lesson of the 5 loaves and 2 fish I wrote about in Mother's Rule of Life? We are called, by God, to put forth our full effort to fulfill the will of God in our family life.

But alas, too often we think it funny that we slack off in our responsibilities.

I read an article in a prominent Catholic magazine a few days ago where the mother did nothing but joke about how she never did her duty, how her house was a mess, how she couldn't be bothered to clean up, etc... It was a scandal.

Would I ever visit a doctor who joked about never fulfilling his medical duties? Would I ever trust a lawyer who didn't do his job well, professionally, and thoroughly?

What is it with some women who think it is funny and 'natural' to let the housework slide? to ignore the nutritional needs of their children? to pay more attention to their computers than their children? And in all this, to joke - as if God Himself thinks all this is OK too.

Let me tell you, ladies - it is most certainly NOT OK with God for us to be slack, and slothful and indifferent to our duties and responsibilities.

Scripture warns us that Jesus will vomit the lukewarm out of his mouth at the end of time.

Let's stop belittling our vocation, our mothering, our home care - let's give it the dignity it deserves - and let's pay it the attention and dedication it deserves by attending to our motherly duties with our full heart and soul.

No more: "I'd like to do my housework but... hee hee..."

As Moses said - "I put before you life or death... choose life." We must choose - choose to do our part - or we tie God's hands... And then, we have no right to complain.
