Welcome to "Thoughts for Moms"

Dear Friends,

"Thoughts for Mom" is a special place to receive spiritual sustenance related to the vocation of motherhood. Here I will post various reflections — from popes, saints, and Catholic writers, to my thoughts and yours — to help us better live our mission as Moms, and to help us give our vocation the depth of meaning God intended it to have.
Once more, you and I both have something to share, so please join me in adding meditations and personal insights in the comments section under each post, or contacting me at holly@mothersruleoflife.com with your own reflection to add.

God Bless,
Holly Pierlot

Our Mothering Work Is His...

"Never do the work carelessly...Remember, the work is His. You are [God's] co-worker. Therefore, He depends on you for that special work. Do the work with Him, and the work will be done for Him. The talents God has given you are not yours - they have been given to you for your use, for the glory of God. You may feel very bad, but feelings are not the measure of our love for Christ. It is our will and our work that matters. Be great, and use everything in you for the good Master..."

I have always considered faith is like infra-red glasses: you know, those glasses which soldiers put on so they can see at night, or those gizmos which measure the amount of heat radiating from your home in winter! These glasses help you to see what you normally could not with normal vision.

So too, faith is like that - it enables us to see a deeper meaning in what most people normally don't see...

And that is what Mother Teresa is telling us here - that there is a deeper meaning to our work in the home and with our families.

Everything we do is a job assignment from God. It's not just dirty dishes which are disgustingly caked with dried tomato sauce! It's keeping our dishes clean in order to protect the health of our family ! And we do this because God entrusts our family to us to care for them in his stead! We work for God, with our dish-panned hands and our sore feet and our spinning brains! And we work alongside Him - as He too cares and tends to our family (and to us) right along with us!

So,let us not moan about our work! Let us hear the Father saying "I need to get the laundry done today - can you help Me?" And then let's say "Sure!!! Absolutely!!! I'll help in anyway I can!" With a smile on our faces, and love in our hearts -
