Welcome to "Thoughts for Moms"

Dear Friends,

"Thoughts for Mom" is a special place to receive spiritual sustenance related to the vocation of motherhood. Here I will post various reflections — from popes, saints, and Catholic writers, to my thoughts and yours — to help us better live our mission as Moms, and to help us give our vocation the depth of meaning God intended it to have.
Once more, you and I both have something to share, so please join me in adding meditations and personal insights in the comments section under each post, or contacting me at holly@mothersruleoflife.com with your own reflection to add.

God Bless,
Holly Pierlot

About Neglecting Prayer

"Any neglect in our interior life because of too much work is reflected in the quality of our work, for the lack of personal virtue becomes visible in it, and that lack can bring all our acts to nothing... if one is to fulfill one's duties, one has to have the help of the Spirit of God, and... it is vital to rearrange one's occupations in such a way that it is never necessary to drop prayer..."

Stephan Cardinal Wyszynski in "All YOu Who Labor: Work and the Sanctification of Daily Life", Manchester, NH, Sophia Institute Press, 1995, p107-108

There are always many temptations for Mom to skip prayer, shorten prayer, dump prayer 'just this once'. And that's what they are - temptations.

If A Mother's Rule of Life promotes anything, the primacy of prayer in our lives would be it's number one lesson.

We MUST put God first - must make ourselves available to Him - even if we feel like we're wasting time, or if things are dry and boring. Since grace is supernatural, it's bestowal can be hidden and undetected, but as the Cardinal notes - every one can tell that we're not praying well, because our virtue lessens... Oooo.

Especially this Holy Week, let's put our hearts into real time spent with and for God. The joy of the Easter season will correlate to our efforts to get closer to God...
