1. Pray - using Scripture - being 'open' to God's Will and communication. Much much prayer in serious situations - don't be hasty to make a decision
2. After a period of prayer, "Adopt" the decision in your mind: does it bring me peace? or am I agitated? confused? That which brings me peace is a good indicator
3. Consult others - ask the opinions of others you trust; of those who would 'know' about these things; discuss it; ask them to pray for you.
4. Make up a running pros and cons list; weigh the relative seriousness of each issue; which list is longer? which list deals with more fundamental truths? which list is filled with lesser important ideas?
5. Look for confirmation of your decision - A) are other faithful persons in your life supporting you? Can they see this as a viable option for you, given your personality and circumstances? B) Are circumstances changing and doors opening up - or are doors closing, suggesting this is not the option for you? C) are you getting confirmation in Scripture? Is something 'sticking out' when you pray and read - something which hits you as being a key point in God's intent for you?
6. Does the situation follow church teaching? or is it contrary to what you know is best?
7. For the married woman: what is the prayerful opinion of your husband? What is the opinion of your director? What do circumstances say to you? What does your heart say?
