Schedule "Times" - General or Exact?

Dear Holly,
I have a quick question about my rule. Do you follow the rule time guidelines exactly? Or do you just use these to give a flow to your day and keep the time slots as a general guide? I find we're doing well for the most part. But was just wondering how to handle it when we get a little behind.

I basically use the scheduled times as both a precise and a general guideline, depending on the day.

For me, if I'm just being lazy that day and reluctant, I have to stick to the exact times to continue to train myself to self-discipline! Coming off vacations, I usually am pretty attentive to the time slots until I get back on track - and it usually feels pretty good to get exact again.

At other times, when the children are all on task and there is a good flow going and we're involved peacefully in our activity, I am not concerned with moving into the next scheduled activity as when a bell rings. We attempt to follow the basic schedule, but allow flexibility for real needs.

Note - real needs, which includes the peaceful order of a family getting along well, and not just whims. Inconvenience or sloth doesn't count! So it depends on the day. :-)
