Welcome to "Thoughts for Moms"

Dear Friends,

"Thoughts for Mom" is a special place to receive spiritual sustenance related to the vocation of motherhood. Here I will post various reflections — from popes, saints, and Catholic writers, to my thoughts and yours — to help us better live our mission as Moms, and to help us give our vocation the depth of meaning God intended it to have.
Once more, you and I both have something to share, so please join me in adding meditations and personal insights in the comments section under each post, or contacting me at holly@mothersruleoflife.com with your own reflection to add.

God Bless,
Holly Pierlot

Jesus Needs Us Right Where We Are...

"As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed by demons begged Jesus to let him go with Him. But Jesus refused and said to him, "Go home to your friends , and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and what mercy He has shown you..." and the man went away, and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed..." Anytime we've had an encounter with God, we want to be with Him even more. And this is what the demoniac felt after Jesus healed him. He wanted to go off with Jesus and stay with him. But Jesus wanted the man to stay with his family and friends and evangelize them - to be a living witness of the love and mercy of Jesus right where he lived.

So too for us. While some may be called to fly around the country helping others, or to work with the poor in a local city, or to be involved in many parish and diocesan activities, I think for me what struck me most about this reading, is that God wants me right where I am - for me, that means, right here in my home, homeschooling, and raising my children. I am called first and foremost to be a living witness fo the love and mercy of God right here - to my family.

There's always pressure to be involved elsewhere, and to possibly neglect the family. There may be tugs at our heartstrings as we yearn for something more romantically saint-like.

But Jesus needs us here. Who else will love my husband and help him to heaven if not I? Who else will attend to the Catholic upbringing of my children better than I? Who else will tend my home and garden with more TLC than I?

It is a call from Jesus to calm, to quiet, to peace - as we go about our 'little duties' in love. To 'bloom where we're planted' - we aren't here because a seed dropped by accident - we are here because Jesus himself has placed us in this certain place, for these certain reasons.

Jesus tells us too - "Go home! Tell them what I have done for you..."
