Schedules Don't Seem to Work For Me
Dear Holly
Everything in A Mother's Rule of Life sounds really good, but I'm hesitant to begin. I've tried to pull things together before, but schedules don't seem to work for me. It's not for lack of trying, but I can never keep them up. Even so, the order and balance of a Mother's Rule is so attractive...

This I intimately understand! These were the things that helped me overcome 'schedule failure': First, I based my Mother's Rule on the hierarchical priorities of my vocation instead of what I 'wanted' to get done. The thrill of seeing responsibilities accomplished was a great motivator. Secondly, I used a simple scheduling tool and kept in mind I would be 'assessing' what was working and what wasn't for a good long while. Thirdly, I realized it was consistency, not schedules, which were my problem - and consistency begins with baby steps. But most importantly, I understood that this was what God Himself was asking of me - to take charge of my vocation and do my jobs well. "To do all for Him, because He asks it, out of love for Him." This provided the spiritual depth I needed to keep going. Hope this helps!
