Welcome to "Thoughts for Moms"

Dear Friends,

"Thoughts for Mom" is a special place to receive spiritual sustenance related to the vocation of motherhood. Here I will post various reflections — from popes, saints, and Catholic writers, to my thoughts and yours — to help us better live our mission as Moms, and to help us give our vocation the depth of meaning God intended it to have.
Once more, you and I both have something to share, so please join me in adding meditations and personal insights in the comments section under each post, or contacting me at holly@mothersruleoflife.com with your own reflection to add.

God Bless,
Holly Pierlot

Renewing Our Commitment

"When you turn back to Him with all your heart, to do what is right before Him,
Then He will turn back to you, and no longer hide His face from you..."

I heard a little story the other day about a man who went to talk to Mother Teresa of Calcutta while she was still on earth. I forget what his exact problem was, but he spent a good twenty minutes pouring out his very complicated tale of woe to her. When he was finished, Mother Teresa looked at him and said, "When you begin to pray every day, and stop doing what you know is wrong, you will be fine."

How simple. When we begin to pray every day and stop doing what we know is wrong, we too will be fine.

This Advent, let us reflect upon these words. Am I avoiding my responsibilities? Am I trying to escape what God wishes me to do? Am I very slow in bringing about the order in my life and home which He has called me to? Am I being unfaithful to my rule?

But then, we must move ahead, and re-commit to our calling. Our vocation is a beautiful one, full of dignity and honor.

So I need to make sure I am praying, turning my heart to God and His Will for me. And what I will find is that, when I get up in the morning, and set my mind and heart upon the fulfillment of my vocation as expressed in my mother's rule, that joy itself will come to visit me. There is no greater joy than to serve God, knowing that all we do in our homes and family life is a direct "yes" to His Will.
