How Long Does it Take to Pull Things Together?
Dear Holly
How long did it actually take for your Rule to all fall into place? I have spent the last two days reading your book. I've attempted MOTH for a few years, but I haven't always kept up with it.

Designing my rule certainly went in stages. That first Sunday night in desperation, I worked out basic meal times, morning prayer, school times and tidy up times. That was it - no chore charts, just time slots. The results were miraculous just with that!
Over the next couple of weeks, I asked myself questions - the ones in "A Mother's Rule" - and answered them, and began working out the schedule and chore charts and implementing them, all the while doing my 'room analyses' and purging the house of clutter.
Over the next couple of months, I kept track of all the things I hadn't accounted for in my little notebook on the kitchen counter, and tried to find a time and place for everything.
But I have found 'order' is still being gradually revealed to me! A year later, I finally sorted my filing cabinet and re-arranged our financial record keeping and budget. Two years later, I finally purged my attic and bedroom closets. Three years later, I threw out all the unnecessary furniture I had lying around. This fall, I emptied storage bins and dumped piles of useless stuff!
So, one step at a time, with an basic initial schedule at first, an ongoing assessment, and an initial de-cluttering of the home.
My rule is a work in progress. I started out four years ago with a few basic routines for prayer and kids activities. As I grow and our family makeup changes, my rule has been modified and enhanced. Somedays I ask myself how much longer it will be until I have everything pulled together. I certainly haven't mastered it all but I can see the progress that I have made in many areas of my life and I know that the "work" towards perfection will not be done until we are welcomed into the kingdom. As my husband says "keep your chin up so you can see the prize"
