Dealing With Details
Dear Holly
I have been implementing a Mother's Rule for a month now, but am getting a bit confused. There are a lot of details that I haven't accounted for -- little things that keep popping up, like taking out the garbage or dusting the kitchen fan or what to do with wet rainboots. Every day I find 5 new things I forgot and am starting to feel overwhelmed again. What to do?

We cannot create perfect order in our homes overnight, and fine-tuning our rule over the first few months ought to be a given!
When I encountered this, I put my Mother's Rule notebook open on the kitchen counter for a couple of weeks, and just began to write down the extra activities I found myself doing. I kept a running list.
When I had a few moments during a quiet time, or especially on my Day-Outs, I'd ask myself these questions: How often does this need to be done? Who can do it and when? Where can I give this miscellaneous item a permanent home? And then I just added them to existing chore charts,or set up places for those things.
After a month or so, these little details stopped popping up.
