Welcome to "Thoughts for Moms"

Dear Friends,

"Thoughts for Mom" is a special place to receive spiritual sustenance related to the vocation of motherhood. Here I will post various reflections — from popes, saints, and Catholic writers, to my thoughts and yours — to help us better live our mission as Moms, and to help us give our vocation the depth of meaning God intended it to have.
Once more, you and I both have something to share, so please join me in adding meditations and personal insights in the comments section under each post, or contacting me at holly@mothersruleoflife.com with your own reflection to add.

God Bless,
Holly Pierlot

Can't Seem to Make or Follow a Mother's Rule

"I cannot understand my own behavior. I fail to carry out the things I want to do, and I find myself doing the very thing I hate..."

There are so many reasons why we would not be able to make a rule or follow fully the one we have made. Yes, it could be sloth (a nagging reluctance to bother!), or a healing issue (we might have personal obstacles wihtin us which make it very difficult to establish order in our homes and lives), or it could be human nature - that we are split inside, and inconsistent, our emotions often leading us one way when our reason dictates another. This latter is common and the most probable cause.

Old habits may be hard to change, but they can still be changed. We can take on a new direction with our lives, but it is most normally going to take time. The most important thing is to not be discouraged or to throw the whole idea of a rule out the window. Patience and slow steady progression - this is the norm of change, and God is helping us whether we feel it or not!
