Am I Overdoing it?

Dear Holly
I am wondering about my Mother's Rule - first off, I love the order I am seeing in my home and the reduction of stress and mess. But at the same time, sometimes I feel a bit 'automated'. Refering to my chore charts and schedules is working, but I personally feel a bit strange and somewhat 'crowded' - like all of this isn't 'me'. Do you understand?

Yes, I understand this - I too felt 'weird' when I first began my Mother's Rule. Two things: Whenever we do a lifestyle change and try to develop new habits, we can feel out of whack. Now, especially since you are trying to do what you reasonably know is necessary, you have ceased to work from 'whim'. In a short while, these new habits will feel natural and you will be glad you stuck with it.
Secondly, I took my Rule to my spiritual director and had him look it over to make sure it was 'reasonable' and that I wasn't overdoing it. You might want to find an objective outside source to look it over too, so that when "I don't feel natural" feelings come, you can assure yourself that what you are doing is within reasonable limits and you not overextending yourself.
